Berhim Raman
Visual Arts
Turkey, & Zurich, Switzerland
Artist in Residence at Rote Fabrik from October to November 2023
Berhim Raman is from Kurdistan. He has been living in Zurich as a recognised refugee since 2019.
He was accepted by the Zurich University of the Arts for a programme that aims to give refugee art students and artists access to the university, which he completed last year.
In the last few years he has worked mainly on small-format drawings, not least because he doesn't have enough space to work in. At the moment he is working on two big projects questioning transgenerational trauma at the same time.
He said that the possibility of having a studio space and therefore daily contact with other artists, is a great opportunity for him. Not only to get involved in the Zurich art scene, but also to expand his knowledge. For him, a broader network is an important exchange component to promote mutual dialogue.
