Artist in Residence at the Rote Fabrik from: 03.07.2019 to 28.09.2019

Using installations, sculptures, paintings and drawings, my works question the politics and representation of class difference and identities prevalent in the societies of India. My works explore with humorous satire- the irony and tyranny of power structure and thereby the plights of working class labourers, whose identities become blurred within the official narratives and at most times, taken away in the economic and political war. My attempts have been to engage with what constitutes labour and its negotiations with the power structures and the space within which labour and the labouring bodies are embedded into and often marginalized. Historical industrial sites, such as Rote Fabrik designed to accommodate intensive labour not only evoke a sense of history of the work done there but also narrate the story of the silence around that intense work in the mainstream discourses of power . My efforts as an artist tries to incorporate the very powerful presence of the space itself in my works. I, further, aim to deal with how identity changes meaning and perceptions at each level of hierarchy.. My work has in fact always focused on how the complexities of human identity is summed up and reduced to the patterns on their fingertips especially with the discourse of Aadhar database in India and its differential as well as levelling effect it has on the labour as well as the capitalists.
