Nataliia Oliferovych

Nataliia Oliferovych

Painting, installation

From Kyiv, Ukraine. Currently Leipzig, Germany.

My artistic practice is diverse, encompassing mostly painting, various printing techniques, and upcycling clothes. I find joy in the idea of creating new from the old and engaging with existing materials rather than producing more.

My life experiences have been marked by moments of depression, which have led me to prefer working with what I have and rebuilding rather than discarding the past entirely.

Some years ago, I shifted my career path completely after undergoing a stressful and painful operation. It is fascinating to observe how many people have similarly reinvented themselves since the beginning of the war.

In my artistic practice I share my journey as a refugee as a woman and as a human being. My works are about daily things in a chaotic world.

For me, art is a tool to delve into these significant topics and express my perspective to the world. It allows me to regain control over my narrative and connect with others on a deeper level.

I envision my residency as an opportunity to further develop my work in several ways. I would like to delve deeper into the concept of 'upcycling' in my art. Maybe i will find something interesting in Zurich streets, can’t tell for sure in advance.

Also I aim to focus on the theme of displacement and resilience, drawing from my own experiences as a refugee. I plan to work on projects that not only share my personal journey but also reflect the broader human experience of facing adversity and adapting to new circumstances.

Through my work, I hope to contribute to a dialogue on resilience, transformation, and the human experience in today's chaotic world.
