performance art, documentary theatre

Artist in Residence from October to December 2025

Yevheniia Vidishcheva is a theatre director and performing artist from Kyiv, Ukraine. Her artistic practice is rooted in documentary theatre and socially engaged art. For more than ten years, she has been exploring themes of war, trauma, collective memory, and resilience. Working with real stories, she uses performance as a way to reflect on the human experience within political and social realities.
Her artistic journey began during the Revolution of Dignity in 2013, when she discovered that art could be a space for reflection, transformation, and dialogue. Since then, she has created and produced numerous documentary and musical performances in Ukraine and internationally. Works such as Safe Space, Kontur, and Misto Marii: The Siege Diaries give voice to those affected by war and explore how art can help process collective pain.
During her residency at Rote Fabrik, Vidishcheva is developing a new solo documentary performance based on her own body as an archive. The piece connects her tattoos with memories of cities and experiences shaped by war. Through this work, she continues her exploration of vulnerability, memory, and presence, culminating in a premiere in Zurich in December.
